Blackjack - The Aim of the Game
 Play Now
Blackjack is one of the oldest card games around, and also one of the easiest to pick up. Although mastering Blackjack can take years of practice, playing it even at a beginner’s level is always enjoyable. The objective in Blackjack is to obtain a hand that is worth 21 points, but not exceed it. Each player is dealt 2 initial cards, yet can choose to be dealt more if the hand-total is not close enough to 21. The winner is the player whose hand is closer to 21 points than that of the dealer.
Blackjack - Rules and Course of the Game
There are very few rules to follow in Blackjack, and the course of the game is relatively quick. The only time players have to really learn anything is when using the more advanced playing options, listed below. If you're new to online Blackjack, then follow these simple steps:
- Choose the Blackjack variation you wish to play by clicking “play”. You will be presented with a felt green table.
- Game-play begins by making a bet. This is done by clicking on the chips (right-click removes chips from the bet).
- Once the bet has been made, click “deal”. The dealer will deal you 2 initial cards face-down. (The dealer's first will card is dealt face-down and the second card is dealt face-up).
- Decide whether or not you want to add cards to your hands in order to get closer to 21. If you need another card, click “hit”. When you are satisfied with your hand-value, click “stand” and you'll be shown the results.
- If your hand is closer to 21 than the dealer’s, you win and are awarded your winnings. If you have exceeded 21, you “bust” (i.e. – lose).
- To begin the game afresh, click “new game” and follow these same steps.
If you want to use the more advanced playing options, then these are your choices:
- Double - if you want to be dealt no more than 1 additional card, you may double your bet by clicking the “double” button.
- Split – if you receive 2 initial cards sharing the same denomination, you are allowed to ‘split’ the hand, meaning that one of the 2 cards will be used as your first initial card in this game, and the other of the 2 cards will be used as your first initial card in your next game.
- Insurance – if the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, there is a good chance that his/her face-down card is a face-card, which would equal a win. Here you're given the opportunity to bet half of your original bet on this happening, such that if it does, you do not lose any money.
Blackjack - Terminology
The following are all the terms you need to know whilst playing Blackjack:
- "Blackjack" – when a player holds a hand comprised of only the 2 initial cards and is worth exactly 21 points (i.e. – Ace + face-card). This is an instant win.
- "Hit" – to be dealt another card.
- "Stand" – to finish dealing cards and be shown the game results.
- "Rebet" – to place the same bet as in the previous game and be dealt cards.
